Taygetos Honey | Fotopoulos Beekeeping Messinia

In 1980, Michalis H. Fotopoulos and his wife Maria Fotopoulos started out timidly as amateurs with five hives in the garden of their house in Akritochori, Messinia.

They produced just enough honey for the needs of their family, for their three children Christina, Antonia and the youngest Charalambos, and to treat their relatives and dear friends. After a few years, Michalis and Maria decided to go from being amateurs to becoming professional honey producers in order to share the wonderful taste and nutritional value of honey with all their fellow human beings.

So in 1983 the five hives had become 200 and were moved from their home garden to the wider area of ​​Messinian Mani and the mountains of Taygetos.

In 1984 they became active members of the Athens People's Market. The excellent quality of their products made them constantly acquire new customers with a constant value for the old ones. They delighted everyone and generously gave them the beneficial benefits of honey and the rest of their pure products (pollen, royal jelly, and the fragrant herbs of the mountain).

In 1994, the son Charalambos Fotopoulos took over the business, while he had attended educational seminars on beekeeping and had acquired the appropriate knowledge for the profession, which together with his parents' art make up the secret of success. The parents continue to this day with great enthusiasm and passion to produce honey and all its derivatives, growing the business and taking part in major honey festivals. They are currently registered in the Kalamata beekeepers' cooperative. They are engaged in the wholesale and retail sale of their products.

The Fotopoulos beekeeping "Taygetos Honey" has been certified with ISO 22000:2005 for the production, packaging and trade of bee products since January 8, 2009
